Branksome beach café bar and restaurant
The new building is a conversion of an existing 1930s art deco building on
the sea front on the south coast, from what had been a public swimming pool
and solarium, into a ground floor restaurant with a separate take away café,
and a first floor bar with a roof terrace overlooking the sea.The single storey
restaurant extension on the seafront is a modern steel and glass box with
flat roof incorporating glass lanterns. Interior insertions include a coloured
glass lightbox wrapped around the projection of the kitchen into the restaurant,
and incorporating an open service counter. Backlit coloured glass panels in
the lightbox glow after dark to recall the twinkle of lights in the distance
across the sea.
