Diamond Architects was formed by Rosamund Diamond and Layla Shamash in 1991. The work of the practice is predominantly in London and Oxfordshire. Wide ranging, it includes new and converted buildings, feasibility studies, space planning, lighting and furniture design. Previous and current projects have included corporate offices, medical and mathematical research units, hotels and work for private clients in the UK.
The work of our practice, as with many European architects, is invariably within the domain of existing urban development. Our approach treats the circumstances of each project positively, so that each design makes use of its specific physical and cultural environment to amend our own design interests, to produce contemporary design solutions that are not rigid, and are appropriate to their circumstances, combining effective design with economy. The practice has specialised in conversions of complex Listed/old buildings in sensitive settings.
Rosamund Diamond studied architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL. She worked with practices in London and Oxford before establishing DA Architects. She has taught at the Architectural Association London and the Oxford School of Architecture. She has co-edited a number of books on architectural subjects and is an editor of the architectural journal 9H. Layla Shamash became a consultant to the practice in 1998.
