Twilly Springs Main House (Phase 2)
Twilly Springs house is an existing single family house which has been subject to various extensions and alterations of variable quality, in the past thirty years
The scheme involves the demolition of the existing house and its reconstruction in a new form which incorporates the existing early 16th century timber frame reinstated and describing the two cottages of which the original house was formed. The sixteenth to eighteenth century bricks will be reused on the base of the house and the study fireplace.
The new scheme transforms the house into a consolidated whole; with a proper sequence of ground floor communal spaces, to form a comfortable family home
A gabled facade will form the front of the house – behind the centre a green oak framed two storey central bay will be constructed, incorporating an new entrance hall and a new seasoned oak staircase. The new oak frame brought iinto alignment with the old elm frame visible on the first and second floors. A sixteenth century pargeted wall panel will also be reinstated visible from the new stair hall.
The approach to the house design speaks of tolerance both in a new design which accomodates and acknowledges what existed before and in its use of materials designed to accommodate their inherent movement.
The project is currently on site.
